Awesome pickups! Mellow, clear... Now the strat play like a strat should play!! Alnico III is perfect for me, good mids, not too bass (specially on the neck) and high not piercing!
I have get the set with baseplate on the bridge, probably it would been better without it, because I think that it eliminate the mellowing sound... Is it possible to eliminate it?

I also had a set of Apaches (with the base plate) in a 57 reissue. Such a good sounding guitar. I never should have sold it, idiotic thing to do. I often wonder what it is doing now.

If you really don't like the base plate I'm not sure if it something that is easily removable in a DIY sort of way or if it is something that maybe Tim needs to get back in to do.

I don't know if I'll remove it. I'm playing the guitar and it is awesome... My first set of BK pickups!! I want another guitarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
