I recently scored an all-mahogany LTD Viper fitted with P90s, planning to use it as a backup guitar for my Gibson 60s Tribute Les Paul. Well, the damn thing played great, but the stacked P90s in it sounded awful. I decided to finally try out some Bare Knuckle P90s, since Philly Q raves about them so much, and Nolly suggested the Nantucket neck and Supermassive bridge, so I bought them and finally installed and tested them out this weekend.
They sound absolutely incredible, the Supermassive has a prominent midrange, but it doesn't sound honky. It's still slightly nasally, but in a really pleasant way. It has a lot of weight behind the notes, and sounds great at any gain level I use. The Nantucket has that classic and beautiful P90 neck tone, but without losing note definition. It's incredibly big and warm, but also has a slight chime to it. The middle position sounds incredible too. Tim recommended that it'd be great for funk, but it's in general a very usable sharp attack, with some body and weight behind it. Overall, the note definition and clarity makes my Gibby sound soft around the edges now. I'll have to get her some Bare Knuckles too! Maybe some Blue Notes?
