thinking about moving on from the Cpig 7 set - blackhawk ?
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:27:26 AM »

I got a custom 7 built last year and got a cpig set . been happy with the set , don't regret the decision

but I feel like the last month I have been moving away from the super hot , heavy bottom end pick ups . swapped out the  A-pig in my 6 for an A-bomb and enjoying the less bass and a bit more treble cut .still have enough bottom and dont feel like I'm trying to work with so much of it

I want to keep the 7 ceramic mag. it stay's in 7 std and drop A so I'm not  tuning low but ceramic seems a better choice for any 7 to me  . I still like the sound of the Cpigs but with less/tighter bass responce and a little more treble cut. on paper the black hawk seems to tick the boxes I want .

guitar is wenge/swamp ash body and wenge and maple neck . amp is a dual recto . my bands style is in the vein of perfect circle , FNM and little a tool . but more APC than Tool

any idea or feedback on the BH as a choice  is needed

Maton- jazz/JB
Cole Clark -NB Neck ,  Apig
Mayones Setius - Juggs
Et Guitars Katana 7 -Juggs
Mesa Dual Rect
and more stuff

the miracle man works well for those styles and amp, but it's also a bass heavy pickup
how about a cold sweat?
it has some chevelle/deftones vibe to it in low tunings

Yeah mm is out. Too much low mids I feel

Hadn't thought about cold sweat I'll check out some more clips of it

So you reckon  blackhawk  is a bad match ?

never tried one
some users claim it to be quite bass/low mid heavy as well

ps: you won't find many clips of the bridge CS doing something out of the usual hard rock/thrash/djent stuff

I don't have any rhythm clips, but here's some live action CS lead tones (my bandmate plays the PRS mccarty with a cold sweat, I'm playing the les paul with a riff raff)
the ipod audio is awful, but captures the leads pretty well

oh... intro on this song is the cold sweat, drop c# tuning (no multitracking)
my friend had it a little further from the strings, so it sounded sharper and not as meaty as it would in a closer setup
it sounded very punchy in my les pauls and huge in low B tunings
