If you are playing everything from Death Metal to Blues you're going to need a couple of completely different guitars/amps. Not too many Blues guys use high output buckers into an EVH amp.
PRS Bernie Marsden Abraxas set
PRS S2 Singlecut RY's
JV Strat  IT Bridge
Gibson SG JB bridge
Fender Mex Tele Thinline TV Jones Classics
Fender Bassbreaker 15
Yamaha THR 100 Dual
Quilter Aviator Cub

Richard, I've been thinking about a two pickguard solution. One loaded with Singlecoils and the other one with a single Humbucker for Metal. However I'm pretty much thinking about just giving it up with the Strat, sometimes you can't force things. The guitar plays great, sounds amazing on clean stuff but everything that goes into Hard Rock and Metal territory doesn't seem to work with it...

That works for test purposes, but long-term could you really be bothered swapping them back and forth?

(I know I couldn't, but I guess that goes without saying!  )
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

I'm a nerd when it comes to stuff like that and do it quite often, you can swap them easily when restringing, all you need to do is un- and resolder the input jack wires :P

Yeah I know, but having to dig the soldering iron out, then 11 screws out, 11 screws back in, then stringing up again....

I guess if you change strings frequently it's not too bad.

It usually depends on my mood, when I'm feeling lazy sometimes I don't even touch the guitar

Btw Philly, any idea what singlecoils could put me into this kind of tonal ballpark:

Sorry man, I'm a terrible judge of "how do I get this tone".

But that sounds like pretty typical Strat to me, as a shot in the dark I would say nothing high-output, Mother's Milks perhaps.
