Things to see in Liverpool? Good stores?
« on: March 12, 2013, 12:48:31 AM »
Hi,
IŽll be spending a few days in Liverpool very soon and was wondering if anyone around here might have some advice on what there is to see, what guitar stores I might check out, which are great pubs, etc.

Just anything about Liverpool really on the offchance there is someone around here knowing something. So far I only really got a recommendation to see the area around Anfield Stadium, a Banksy piece near the Chinatown entrance and well ofc the Caverns.
Will be staying near the Cathedral so that is on the list too. Sides that I am rather lost.

Should be interresting to experience the pubs closing at times where things start to get going here in Germany.^^

Cheers

This rock/metal pub is the only thing I know in Liverpool. It is good though!

Liverpool isn't that big. You could probably walk around and see most of stuff in the course of a day unless you want to see nonsense like the banana sheep.

Dawsons Music by Liverpool Central trains station might be worth popping in but it isn't very exciting. Liverpool One as it's known is horrible. When the city got capital of culture they bulldozed down anything vaguely cultural and turned the centre of town into an open all mall. It's absolutely grotesque if you ask me.

Probe Records is a spot I always check out. Since it moved though it doesn't have as much stuff as it used to. Some gems though, if you like vinyl. If you like veggie/vegan food then The Egg Cafe is ok. There are museums and galleries close to the town centre too up towards Liverpool Lime Street. Bombed Out Church is worth a look if you want to see a church that has been hit with a bomb. Albert Dock might be worth a wander about but it's not that wonderous. Most of the venues I used to go to don't exist any more.

Also, I've been out at night in a bunch of places in Germany. Essen, Aachen, Berlin. For better or worse nothing compares to Liverpool or the north of england in general.

Thanks so far, although it sounds rather sad hearing that most good things are gone.

Since I am a Vegetarian the Egg Cafe recommendation is welcome, I am generally interrested to see how well one can survive in England.

A good Vinyl store is also always worth checking out, just gotta see that I get them back savely.

The Church sounds very interresting.

"For better or worse nothing compares to Liverpool or the north of england in general. " I dunno what what to really make of that, but I guess IŽll see, I think it goes along those lines of: "Livepool has a lively nightlive, too lively at times" Which I hear rather often in my preparations.

"Livepool has a lively nightlive, too lively at times" this is pretty much what I mean.

London (where i live now) has lively nightlife, but I've never seen groups of girls squat down to urinate in the street like I have in liverpool. Saying that... it has a special place in my heart.

You will find it really easy being veggie here, don't worry about that!
