Aftermaths in action (Jet City + Bad Monkey test)
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:50:22 PM »
Hey guys,

Finally got around to recording my new amp, but might need some advice about micing up cabs.

Here's the clip:
http://snd.sc/YjH13h

I've also included a couple of pics of how my mics were positioned.

Both left and right channels have a mix of the PG58 and the SM7b, I ran them both and then got their levels mixed in Cubase to the closest I could get to a good sound mix. No other post-EQ or effects were applied.

Unfortunately as you can tell I don't have any mic stands in the house at the moment  :x so I had to use a couple of boxes to sit the mics on.

If there's any way I can improve the positioning to get the most out of the mics, I'm all ears. ^_^

when using 2 mics phase will always be an issue, so move them closer and further apart until the bass sounds fullest, you could also try having them in off axis positions, it usually 9 times out of 10 sounds better. When I use 2 mics I always get the first mic sounding great before even adding a second mic, mono with one mic often sounds better than stereo and two mics from my experience especially if you get into layering tracks. Hope that helps!

Great speaker sound. What speakers? Would those be Jensen Jets or V30s?

They're Eminence speakers that were specifically made for the Jet City cab, I'm not sure exactly what speaker they are based on in the Eminence range.

You must have good ears, though, This was pretty badly recorded. I need to learn how to position my mic/s better and get a fuller sound. Been looking at videos and tutorials, thought I was getting it right, but just sounds so cr@p at the moment. More experimentation needed!  :)
