You could TRY to argue that Chesney Hawkes is rock, but you would be very, very wrong!

Does anybody remember Michael Sembello's "Maniac" or Zucchero's "Senza una Donna"?

These should qualify as pop songs easily.

There's a whole world of amazing Neal Schon solos on Journey singles (although I don't know how many actually made the Top 40).  Again, though, it is basically rock, no matter how slick!

Yeah, there was a moment when I thought it was great that the general public became aware of what a great song "Don't Stop Believin'" is..... then suddenly every other X Factor and American Idol auditionee was singing it in that awful whiny, upbeat, stage-show Glee style.  :(

Still, at least Journey got the royalties.  And I still do like the song.

oh yeah, same here. they win if i stop liking it. But still, it's annoying. it's like you spend all your time wishing the stuff you liked was more popular... and then when it gets more popular you wonder if you were wishing for the right thing...

I kinda hate myself for saying it, but there's a pretty well known guitar solo in the Bryan Adams song "Everything I do"... I know, he sort of breaks the "Rock in Top 40" rule, but it's a very poppy song.

Damn... it's in my head now...

I'd say he used to count as rock (circa Cuts Like a Knife, Run to You etc.... '80s basically), but he definitely didn't by the time of said Robin Hood dirge.

O.k, so Luke is cropping up a lot here. No doubt due to Totos pop sensibilities but I can"t believe that no one has mentioned his effort on Lionel Ritchie's 'Running with the Night" a classic pop album that is very slick and 80s. Luke steals the show - along with that video with the blind student...

This gets my vote. Killer solo and in fact all of the playing is just amazing.
