Dean RC7X Pickup Replacement Help
« on: March 25, 2013, 05:45:23 AM »
Hi!
Well I'm new here so I'll use this post also to introduce myself :)
My name's Cristopher I'm 21 years old, and I'm from Chile

Now....
I own a Dean RC7X
Here's a pic of what this guitar looks like

This guitar came with a set of EMG 707 active pickups and I'm actually a bit tired of the sound of those pickups...

I want to replace them with an BKP Painkiller on the bridge and a BKP Cold Sweat on the neck... The only Issue I'm having
It's that the Neck pickup is angled so the poles wont match the strings...
My question is....
¿Would this change the tone that I get from the pickup in a considerable way?

I'm really confused about this angled pickup thing... If anyone can help me to know more about this topic I would
greatly appreciate it :)

Thanks in advantage guys!
And sorry if my english is bad :P It's been a while since the last time I wrote something in English :)

Hi, Christopher,
I wouldn't worry at all, for one thing, our 7 string pickups have the same spacing for bridge and neck, so the pole spacing is fairly generous at the neck and should accommodate that angle just fine. Secondly, although it is ideal to line the pole pieces up perfectly, it won't have any disastrous effects if it's not exact, for example, LOTS of guitars with wide, 53mm bridge spacing have 50mm spaced pickups fitted (for example, my Ibanez RG550 had a 50mm bridge humbucker from the factory) and it works just fine!

You'd struggle to find a Fender Strat where the poles line up.. All 3 pickups the same spacing, with the one in the widest, bridge position angled!

No problem :-)

If anything, you will end up with a cleaner, slightly brighter tone from the neck position, as the string will be vibrating in a slightly weaker part of the magnetic field
