The Blackstars are good, as are the mentioned HK Tubemeister. I would get the 18 Watt version - two channels. I also like the Dark Terror.
The only amp I really dislike is the Marshall DSL. I think the DSL and TSL series sound too artificial for me.

If the options available to you I'd just get a cheap audio interface (for the asio and a hi-z input), reaper, some headphones and use VSTs. There are loads of more than passable free ones around, and this way you have absolutely loads of options for similar outlay to a practice amp. I'd much rather play through TSE X40 or X50 than any little amp I've used.

Cheers guys,

I'm still looking, played on a Blackstar ID30 the other day and thought that it sounded quite good... still not really sure though. I've had a look at some of the Marshall 50th anniversary 1 watts but they seem a bit pricey. What I wanted originally was a tube amp but to be honest I think I'll probably just go with whatever sounds best.

I was considering buying an audio interface a while back just to have a mess around with some recording so I might look into that again, sounds like it could give me what I'm after.
