Schecter BlackJack SLS C7
« on: March 27, 2013, 05:39:45 PM »
Hi,

thinking about getting my 4th BKP. For now i am realy lucky with my Ibanez 1527 with an Aftermath and my other Ibanez 7321 with an A-Nailbomb. But now i achieved the above mentioned Schecter and as it has mahagony it doesn t work fine with the Aftermath. I have an C-Warpig but have not tried it yet as it is very anoying to solder one pickup after another, while i need them in the other guitars. Also i think as i bought them especialy for my "Ibbi's" they maybe will not fit that good in my Schecter. Maybe there are some other suggestions? I play rather Heavy Deathcore (Whitechapel, KSE) or whatever it is called style also some more Doom (Crowbar) oriented stuff. The PU's should fit both styles. Also they maybe should sound nice on completly clean stuff ;)) ...

Please help me to get some new choices

Greatz M

I think a Cold Sweat set would suit you well. The neck is great for modern clean sounds and fluid lead work and the bridge will be tight and retain some highs for the low b-string. If you want a more aggressive bridge pickup you could pair the Cold Sweat neck with an Ceramic Nailbomb

Hmm at first THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY  :P

As always this forum helps very fast.

But it is a little surprising. Cold Sweat was the last one i d looked at. Thought the BlackHawk would be suggested first cause it seems to be very popular ... why not that ?? It s just to get some food for thoughts, to get my head around this

Also i have already an Alnico Nailbomb. Would it fit better than the Aftermath i am using now (lazy me avoiding to solder an try by myself)?

I am for sure looking for something that sounds THICK. I ve heard KsE are using Active EMG 85 in the brigde to achieve thickness. The main focus of the guitar (and my money bag) is the rythm hi gain sound. The lead sound is not that bad with the build in SD anyway. But i ll change it as soon as i got some more bucks left.

So ... what do you think. ColdSweat fits it? Or some other suggestions?

Eric's advice about the Miracle Man is good and I'm pretty sure he has been around most if not all of the contemporary line up. Maybe a Miracle Man bridge paired with a Cold Sweat neck as the CS has some good modern cleans. A set of Blackhawks would propably work as well.

Hi  :D and thx for the replies ... one last question if i do not annoy you now. Why do you suggest those PU's? I ve listened to the soundclips after you told me ColdSweat would fit good. And i was surprised how well they did on modern metal ... and even more how great the MM sound. But i thought the C-Pig sounded good too. Now ... i have a C-Pig and i know it sounded not very "modern metal" in my Ibanez 1527 while the Aftermath sounded brillant in that guitar. The Schecter sounds not that good with the Aftermath ... will the pig do?? Or asking in an other way. Do you use the diagraphs or how could you be sure that quick. Have you tested them all   :o --- i will just understand ... so i maybe don t need to ask dumb questions all the time. I mean. I have tested the Aftermath now in two different guitars and the A-Nailbombs in two different "Ibanez" guitars ... and the differences are HUGE. Plz be so kind and tell me what i have to look at ...

Schecter BlackJack SLS C7 - Pickup for modern metal

Hi folks,

i know this is more or less a necrobump but as i still hope to get an answer on a missing part of my question.

Is there any kind of diagrams you can suggest or any other stuff i could read so that i maybe can answer it by myself? I got confused as there were the Cold Sweat, the BlackHawk AND the MiracleMan. I am just looking for ONE Bridge PU. If i rely on the diagrams for the PU's the BlackHawk seems to be more midheavy than the others, so i dunno why it CAN work too.

I am looking now (i droped the stoner/clean sound) for some modern metal/deathmetal tone (non djent). Something in between Gojira, KsE, Whitechapel etc.

I hope that i don t annoy you with all these questions but i still feel a little confused and it is not realy cheap (though definitly worth the money) to get a BKP. And i still feel the need.

As i stated before i own Nailbomb (Alnico), Warpig (Ceramic) and Aftermath. I am using the Aftermath now, but i am not convinced that this is the right choice. Please help me out and maybe be so kind and tell me WHY you suggest the PU. So maybe next time i KNOW what to look at.

Regards from Germany
