Sustainer
« on: March 30, 2013, 05:11:04 PM »
Today I tried a guitar loaded with a Fernandes Sustainer pickup and I swear it could have held a note all day. My compressor pedal us great but it won't do that. What pedals could I look at that wouls give that endless sustain in the same way the pickup does?

No need for a pedal or any other fancy widget - just get yourself a semi-hollow and a cranked up tube amp - et voilà, infinite sustain. And you get a wireless controller as added bonus - just have to move to control the sustain

Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

All good suggestions. The E-bow takes a little practice, where the sustainer makes it totally easy.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I don't think anything will do what a sustainer does. A compressor flattens the frequencies coming in making the levels of them all the same, then as the note decays it increases the volume to compensate. It does what you want, but your note still decays and in the end the compressor gives up. You also pay for it in pick attack as the levels are all equalised.

All other pedals that add sustain do so along with something else, usually fuzz or distortion. Which might not be what you want.

There's a pedal from Electro Harmonix called the Freeze. Just stomp on it and it holds as long as you possibly want, even while you go and play other stuff. Perfect for the ending ending note in the solo of Limelight!
