Replacement pickups for late 70's Hagstrom Viking
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:39:10 PM »
I was wanting to replace the pickups in my late 60's Hagstrom Viking.  They are single-coiled pups and I was wanting something that would fit and something that was a little more modern.  Does BKPs offer something like this?

I had to go and look at some pictures of vintage Hagstrom Vikings!

BKP don't make anything which would be a direct replacement.  I think they could rewind your existing pickups, but you probably wouldn't want to do that unless the pickups were broken.

You might be able to get some custom pickup rings made, to use more conventional pickups?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It probably doesn't help that I put 'late 70's' in the header, when I meant late 60's.

I thought it was probably '60s, from what I'd found on Google.  :)

The pickups look a similar size to Gibson mini-humbuckers, although I'd guess they're probably not the same size (guitar parts were a lot less standardised in those days!)

Either way, BKP don't currently make minibuckers, but plenty of other manufacturers do.

Edit: I found this page by a guy who fitted a minibucker in his Hagstrom:
