I've never been a huge fan of goldtops, most look too yellow to me, but I really like both of those!

I have decided I'm too small for Vs (or they're too big for me), but I do love that look of the korina, gold hardware, white scratchplate and black parts.

I love the look of this V, but I can't get on with V's and a lot of Gibson-style guitars, especially when they have batnecks.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

The joy of custom built is that you order the neck that suits you.

Fully agree. I hope to have one of those one day, with black pickguard and open coil Mules. Still a dream for now.

I keep trying to come up with a design which will be shaped like a Les Paul Special, or similar, but with everything else based on a '58 Flying V - korina, gold hardware, strings through body, white scratchplate etc.

The hardest thing is deciding between a single cutaway or double cutaway - I favour the latter, but I always worry about the strength of the neck joint.

Like it - thats what I did with my Lion Special model
Just like a Flying V  except LP shaped

Don't think you'd need a doublecut to cope though Philly

:D  Lookin' good!  Is that a new one?  I remember the first one with zebra pickups and a slightly more pronounced sunburst?

I wasn't thinking of the doublecut in terms of upper fret access, it's more that I want to (somehow) have a control layout similar to a V, with the switch on the scratchplate, so that's better on a doublecut (maybe like the PRS Mira layout).

I'm also obsessed with having a neck joint/heel just like a '58 V - such an elegant design, the way the body extends behind the end of the neck! - so again I'm visualising a doublecut shape.  I think you did something quite similar on the Fatcat.

Anyway  ...... I really like the concept, but it's hard to figure exactly how to do it without it looking awkward and contrived.

Am I right in thinking those original Vs had an extremely long tenon, going right under the neck pickup and partway under the scratchplate?
