Had a drummer audition today. Played through Angel of Death and Raining blood for in Jeffs memory,

Good tracks to test a drummer!

A great shame. Sounds like a nasty way to go too. 49 is not old at all.

I remember Slayer from my yoof, but I never really listened to them.  Have started to do so since hearing this news, and I really like them!

Its truly shocking news, hit me like a sledgehammer when I heard.  I've been into Slayer since I was 13/14 back when South Of Heaven was released - saw them on the Seasons tour in Newcastle, then again on the God Hates Us All tour at The Astoria, then finally on the Unholy Alliance Tour at the Brixton Academy.  Jeff's solos were always my favourite, I remember listening to the interplay on SOH as the lyric sheet also credits the solos too.

Here's a picture a lad on a local music forum posted from when he saw the band at The Marquee back in '85.

For a moment, before reading the whole post, I thought you were going to say that was you, but I guess you're a fair bit younger than that chap.

I never saw them live, but reading the writing credits on the Slayer albums I have got, it always seemed that Kerry got more than his fair share of attention and Jeff's input was rather overlooked.  Did Jeff write less on the recent albums, or is it just a case of Kerry being more vocal and "visual"?

Past few albums they have been writing an equal share.  Kerry does more in the public eye than Jeff did.  They were writing new material but Kerry didn't know if Jeff had anything to bring when they got together.  I guess we may never know now.

I still can't believe he's gone.  It just feels surreal.  :(

Jeff wrote the "best known" songs mostly; Kerry's songs were usually more rhythm-orientated and on some albums he was more productive, on some Jeff. Kerry was always the more public person, which may or may not have suited Jeff anyway.

In any case, it is a very sad thing, and he died quite young as well.

I wonder what ESP will do with his signature guitar line. I hope they can refrain from trying to cash in on this tragedy.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII

I hope they keep making his guitars to honour him like BC Rich do for Chuck Schuldiner and Dean do for Dimebag.  Jeff is really important not too forget.  One could argue they are cashing in but it helps keep their memories alive I feel.

Yes, I just hope they're not going to make cheap LTD commemorative series, like the Dean Dimebag models.

Maybe In a couple years, definitely after leaving a suitable and tasteful amount of time, I'd like to see them reproduce his "sticker" ESP, it's a lot like the Jackson, but ESP. I never really thought the current sigs were really sigs, more like Jeff approved paint jobs. Don't remember seeing him use the camo guitar too much for example
