I totally didn't see this one coming.

I aren't the biggest Slayer fan in the world heck i wouldnt even call myself a fan but i can appreciate what he's done for the metal scene.

a damn shame, at least i had the chance to catch slayer live back in 2003.

from what i read it's a liver failure, related to that spider bite of his? the dude truly wasn't lucky in the past years...

Yeah that seems to be the official verdict.

stuff like what happened to gary moore and jeff really makes you think about your drinking habits. it's fine when you're young, but the older you get the worst your liver is..

i grew up and played my first guitar riffs to slayer, so this is terrible news to me, even if i wasn't up to date on their stuff recently.

Not exactly true because the liver is the only internal human organ capable of regeneration.

But..

This is a shock and a real shame. Didn't expect that news at all.

What a blow for every fan of REAL heavy metal I just feel weird for being so sad like I did when Dimebag and Dio died even though I didnt know them!  I guess its the way you connect with the music.

Contrary to popular belief Jeff actually wrote all of Slayer's best songs but always seemed to take a back seat to Kerry.

Cant really say any more or put it into words.  He wasn't as in your face or as technically gifted as the greats but he really was on their level.  I hope I can listen to Slayer albums without feeling down and shitee........thats what slayer were for no matter what mood you were in it was just SLAYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!! \m/

you said it brother, jeff wrote the best songs and actually soloed well enough and didn't abuse the whammy bar. of course solos are relative when it comes to SLAYEEEEEEEEER but to play that set every night isn't something all of us have the stamina to do. especially past the 40s!

Gosh, I knew he'd been ill but I didn't realise how serious it was.  I'm quite shocked.

Same age as me - all those guys from the original thrash bands are almost exactly my age.  Which, right now, is a sobering thought.

RIP Jeff.

I'm gutted and shocked.  Jeff and Kerry are two reasons why I play guitar and love Slayer so much.

not everyone loves the music of Slayer as i and others here did, but never was their a more socially concious band.. And when the rest of the big 4 were getting more and more commercial, Slayer got harder and harder. I always said about their music "Anger is ok if used constructively" and i always felt its what they did. In this sense there were no purer guitarists than the Jeff and Kerry, 110% connected to their sense of outrage about the things they saw as being bad in the world.

Jeff will be missed

Slayer were one of the first bands I really loved, they played a large part in my adolescence.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.
