Your friend is very talented! I just got round to reading the rules. It's quite a mashup, but is very solidly based on skirmish wargaming; reminds me quite a bit of the original Chainmail and OD&D rules, but with a Heroquest slant and using d10 instead of d6. (the d10 is, in fact, a very recent invention)

Even the turn order in combat is straight out of OD&D: move, missle, magic, melee ...

Yeah I'm really happy to be a part of what he's doing! The current "beta" rules are obviously out there and people are enjoying them immensely so far. He's in talks with games publishers and all sorts right now, so it's very exciting times for us both because he has asked me to do the logo, redesign the character sheet and do little sketches of creatures / adventurers / items to finish it all off. Very happy to be involved in the project. :)
