NGD
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:48:37 PM »
Hey guys.

I mentioned in my recent Kahler Trem Query thread that I had a new guitar coming, well here it is for anyone that's interested

(The pictures are taken from the Ebay auction as they were better than photos I tried to take)

I don't think I really need to say what it is :D It's been modified with a MIA Kahler Flyer Tremolo system and the pickup is a Dimarzio Super Distortion. It cost me £112 so if I sold the pickup separately I wouldn't be into the guitar for too much money

I bought it mainly for a joke to use with my 70s style Punk band or with my 80s style Rock/Metal band.

I know the idea of using it for heavier (in the loosest sense of the word) music has been done to death, I just thought I'd give it a try for a laugh.

I took it to Toe-Knees at the weekend and we restrung it for 10s and he re-setup the Kahler for me and it plays pretty well now. It's never going to be my main player, but that's not really the point of it.

I like it :)

i got one when they came out, and i put a Stetsbar Vibrato on it.  still haven't got around to putting on the locking tuners i got for it.  it's a fun little guitar though, and surprisingly decent sounding.  mine even has a lightly flamed maple neck!

I hope you use that guitar on the most evil-est evil of all evil songs in your set.

This guitar sounds a heck of a lot better than i expected. It also plays pretty damn well too.

I could easily see it holding its own for the stuff my new band is playing and it will definitely do it for what Brow is wanting also with no problems.

I always heard that Agathis gives a completely dead and flat tone but that really wasn't the case.

Thanks guys.

I knew this guitar wasn't going to be everyones cup of tea, and I know it's also a bit of a cliche' using it for anything musically more than the 1st strummed chords of a 12 year old girl, but thought for the cheap price I'd give it a go.

Tonally, I prefer the Super D in this more than when I had 1 in my BC Rich Gunslinger (it got replaced with a Miracle Man in that guitar). It's not got the clarity of my BKP loaded guitars, but it distorts well and has a pretty thick sound to it and that's all I need for my Punk band sometimes

I've always been 1 of those guys/players that tends to overthink most things when it comes to guitar gear so I guess this is just me having a laugh with it for a change and not caring about it being the best it can be tonally etc.

Here's some ideas I've come across as regards modifying the scratchplate a bit:

That last one with the middle finger is good as it really has a punk attitude.  think it's great that you're having fun with the guitar. Sometimes the search for the ultimate gear can take away the pleasure of playing as you're always looking for some improvement instead of just enjoying what you got.

I think it's awesome, musicians should only take their music seriously, not themselves
