Nearly any humbucker will overpower a vintage(hot) singlecoil a bit.
I think the Mule is better at it's place in mahogany based guitars. If you need something fat, look at the Abraxas or Crawler. I have a Crawler in my strat, paired with IT"s. Don't let yourself fooled by the dc-resistance (not the same as output), the balance is quite ok. The Crawler splits great too, you have F-quack at the fourth position and the Crawler splitted (alone) provides a nice beefy teletone. The Crawler has enough PAF-pedigree, it's not modern sounding. Black Dog could be an option too.
