Pickup Advice for Guild S-100
« on: June 03, 2013, 05:02:52 PM »
I want to put new pickups in my Guild S-100. My other guitar has P90s and I love them, but I'm a tad leery of only have P90s. I use a lot of fuzz and need my tone to have a big bottom end but not muddy. I need to be able to cut through and have some clarity. So all that being said... should I get a Riff Raff (Bridge) and MQ (Neck) like the Josh Homme set or a set of MQs? Your help is appreciated!

Why not go for a full RiffRaff set if you already have P90s ? The RR neck is great pickup - to be honest my fav neck pup so far - with lot of bite and clarity. From what I know of the S-100 and other S-XXX Guild guitars, it should work JustFine(tm).

Just my 2 cents...
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

If you like big bottom ends and P90s you can also think about a Stockholm bridge, depending on what style you actually play. That thing sure has bottom end but all the good definition of the P90.
I got one recently and love it so far, really nice roaring sound for rock and metal for me.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Also I play "stoner rocky" metal (think QOTSA meets Electric Wizard). My amps are an Ampeg V2 & Sovtek Mig 50h bi-amped. My other guitar is a Jazz Master Classic Player.

The first combo!  :)
But like Big B says, why not a humbucker-set, since you have a p90's loaded guitar?

I guess my worry is with all the fuzz I use. The P90s have seemed to do better with the fuzz... but it might just be the shitety SD JB that comes stock in the Guild. That is why I hadn't thought of a full humbucker set.
