Great catch! I like the SGV-shape, it's something different and doesn't look like a metal-axe. I think the P90-stratneckpickup combo fits the extreme body design.

Totally agree with this. I think that would work really well.

Looks kinda Mosrite to me.  How about some of the 14k Mosrite pickups?

That is a good idea Elliot. I was also pondering a Jaguar neck since the more unusual look of those pickups could work.

I did a little googling, and some people have had the same idea as you:

this luthier 3D printed some special pickup covers. they fit P90-style fender jaguar pickups, and have the same look as the original Yamaha:

I guess do some mockups in MS paint or something like that, that's what i always do

yeah, it may come to that. i'm generally terrible with graphics though so i might get some empty covers and lay them out on the guitar.

Are those DiMarzios?

I like all the looks you posted, the Mosrite types and the 3D printed covers.*

(* Is it just me, or is the concept of 3D printing utterly mindblowing?  I keep hearing about it, but deep down I don't really believe it exists....  :? )

The 3D printing is developing quickly. In my town a company can print spectacles, complete with the glasses, just in one shot, without layering. Stunning!
Back to topic: I like the look of those printed covers. Has a sixties vibe.

Yes, they are dimarzios. Some kind of DLX I assume.

3D printing is definitely mind blowing. There's quite a few clips on YouTube with examples. It seems to take a while to print stuff out, but it seems to work - you can scan stuff in or use a CAD tool. I've only seen it once in real life where the chap was printing some little trinkets.

It starts to have uses when you realise the applications - like the custom pickup covers, or parts for a classic car or something. There would be a database somewhere online for plastic parts and you can send the files off to a 3D print shop, or one day a home 3D printer.

For comparison, some original covers:

Thinking about it, if those were the stock pickups on that Yamaha, they're probably Q100 pickups (see what they did there?  ), which are the same as the DiMarzio DLX Plus neck model.

I've got a few DLX pickups at home, needless to say I have never got round to using them.  One day they will probably end up in some of my MIJ Juniors or Specials, for a slightly more "modern" vibe than the P-90s.  That's the plan, anyway....

Yeah, exactly. It's the combo isn't it? My yellow SGV has double strat pickups which looks great though.
