Good for you! I got it when I was younger and it was "cool" to be on Facebook. Sometimes I wish I could travel back in time and slap myself in the face

to be fair, when i was younger facebook didn't exist, so i dunno how much credit i can take for it

Hahaha still good for you! I don't know how old you are but I wish I was born in the sixties so I could have lived in the golden times of the NWOBHM and Thrash. People were seeing Metallica in their most glorious era and even pop music was great, they met at concerts and socialised before something like Facebook was even possible. I'm kinda a nostalgic guy, need that god damn time machine already!  :P

I'm not that old  I technically lived through the golden times of those (well, thrash anyway) but I was about 2 so I still missed it

I'd rather be young, to be honest. Things have to be pretty bad before you'd prefer to be old (IMO).

Nothing beats a Rihanna, Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga when it comes to annoying and poorly composed pop music. But that's just my opinion ^^

Ah, you young 'uns.

I'm not saying I prefer being old, but I am glad I grew up in the pre-digital age.  It may sound odd, but I much preferred it when you had to actually make some effort to find information, see a film or get hold of new music, and if something good was on TV everyone would've seen it at the same time!

Although I love the internet in many ways, and digital communication makes many things so much easier and more convenient, it seems to lock us all into our own little bubbles rather than being part of the real world out there.

Sorry, totally off-topic.

Don't like bieber, but i actually quite like lady gaga  her stuff is actually really 80s (considering you said you wanted to be alive during the 80s). some of rihanna's (older) stuff isn't too bad, either. as i said, it's far better than the tat around when i was 17 or 18. Admittedly, we had no x factor or similar then, so... :?

I'm old enough to remember life before the internet and it's way better now. IMO, obviously. The "real" world's overrated :D

Life before the internet would have involved going to the library and having to do actual research in order to write essays for university, where's the fun in that?

Gaga to me is catchy yet... cr@p. Seriously, rama ulala raga ulala, alejandro alejandro, fernando, pa pa pa pokafejsss? I kinda sometimes have the feeling there's something stuck in her brain interfering with her Broca-Areal

Music nowadays is reduced to one slab of shemes that seem to work

(ever heard the 4 chord song by axis of awesome?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I

and all the art and appreciation for real musicians that actually put feeling and meaning behind the music they make is ignored. That's at least how I feel  :P

I actually liked doing that.  Really.

I imagine people now must just copy huge chunks of material from the net and hope they've found a source obscure enough that no-one else will recognise it.  :?

Lady Gaga?  I think she has some talent, somewhere under all the nonsense.
Rihanna?  Nothing but a cretinous skank.
Bieber?  I look forward to his descent into egomania, delusion and addiction.  Looks like it's started already....

Copying huge chunks of text is fine if you quote it as a citation, then write your own take on it, just needs to be relevant, probably not optimal for good marks since it'll fill up the word count pretty fast

you can still do that, though, philly. the difference now is you have the option.

Nowadays, for example, if i see an actor in a film and wonder what else he/she was in, I can look up wikipedia and within 5 seconds get the answer. As opposed to pre-internet where it would have just annoyed me for ages  Obviously that's a trivial example, but it extrapolates out to more serious stuff, too.

bieber creeps me out

and yeah when you get past the gimmicks gaga is actually pretty good. i can't remember a popstar before where i've liked nearly every song he/she has released.

Couple of things.

First of I don´t like Biebers music (exept for this glorios mashup http://vimeo.com/39884322). Still I have respect for the kid as he gets much more hate than he deserves and (so far) handles it quite well. Seems like he can take a joke too, judgin from an apearance on Conan, which is always a plus.

Secondly, yes we do have a lot of shite in this day and age, but I wonder if it is not actually more shite getting made but the shite just having it easier to get out and be made famous (its watched because it is watched).
At any rate there is still a big lot of great music out there if you find it. Just to cite a few I really enjoy: Sufjan Stevens, Steven Wilson, Bon Iver, The XX, Van Canto, Fleet Foxes, Protest the Hero, The National, Saul Williams, Sigur Rós, Arcade Fire, Fall out boy, Ghost, Heaven Shall Burn, LCD Soundsystem, Regina Spektor, The Tallest man on Earth, etc.
Now when it comes to liking these your milage may vary and its a colorful bunch too, but they are all fairly new (to varying degrees, I think they are all about this decade) and for people who like the styles I believe they can really be concidered pretty good.

Thirdly: One thing that was good about the olden days of yore was that there were less distractions. That means more practiving the guitar. These days it is so easier to get lost doing other things I recon.
If I was born 20 years ealier I would be a much better player at this age I think.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

What i miss about the pre internet/digital age is getting out of the house.

All of my friends are lazy arses who would rather talk over the internet than meet up and have a good time.

I have a few quality friends who i see as often as i can. But a lot of people just come up with cr@ppy excuses then later on you find they have been posting some pointless cr@p on facebook or playing candy crush or the like.

I feel like the internet has diluted people to an extent. They want everything the easy way, they don't want to have to physically do anything that they can do online and most of all people in general have become anti-social and reclusive.

I am like Philly. I would rather head down the library or bookstore/blockbusters and find something of interest spending time to browse than sit on my ass and click a few links to get it.

Another thing i do like that the digital age is slowly eroding is physical ownership of movies, books & games. I don't want to pay for something (more than often the same price) and get a digital version that could very easily be lost if the company goes bust.
