BKP 10th Anniversary Humbuckers
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:36:48 AM »
Just saw this on Facebook - am really tempted.  Curious to know which production BKP they are most like.

“The design is based on a pair of vintage humbuckers I made for one of my own guitars recently. I have enjoyed the voicing so much I thought the pair would be perfect to mark the 10th anniversary of Bare Knuckle Pickups.

I've wound the coils by hand with 42 AWG plain enamel wire keeping the wind asymmetrical between the two coils and then using a rough cast Alnico II magnet which I've aged. Both bridge and neck humbuckers are wound differently to optimise the tone and balance of their respective positions on the guitar.

Tonally they bear all the hallmarks of a classic Bare Knuckle; touch sensitive dynamic response, clarity and beautiful vocal delivery.” Tim Mills, 2013

as they're alnico 2 i'm guessing they're a great vintage blues/rock humbucker that can clean up well for jazz. wonder how they'd do in a full hollow...

A bit more info, when asked which production model they were closest to:
"Probably Stormy Monday humbuckers in so much as they're AII but these have more output while the aged magnets help keep control of the bottom end."

Stormy Mondays with more output?  I bet the neck pickup sounds good.

So is this set actually going to be available to buy?  I don't have Facebook.

Hmmm, with only 100 sets available I don't think I should deprive someone far more worthy than me by keeping a set under my bed.  :|

Your bed is like a part of BKP history by now. Somewhat of a mixture of a museum and timecapsul. A monument the gear obsession of us all really.
In a way I wound find it actually soothing to know that there is one under your bed xD
God I have been here far too long...

I was going to say I wouldn't know what guitar to put them in..... then I realised I'd never get round to actually putting them in a guitar anyway.....

P.S.  I've just noticed Tim's official announcements in the News bit of the forum.

Strangly, I feel the same. Philly's bed is like the British library of guitar parts and he is the kindly archivist.

Man I wanne fly over there right now and shoot that! You could make a great miniseries documentary out of that.

Each week Philly pulls something out from under the bed and talks about whatever he got. Storys, history, all the good stuff. Put in some archive shots, mayb some remote interviews with people like Tim or the guys from Warmoth. Finish it off with some old guy with a low voice narrating it while piano and cello music playing in the background to lend it a bit of gravitas.
Bäm, you got a programm!

And as the season finally we film him actually putting on of those parts to use! The papers would go mad.

We love you Philly!

Include interviews with Ebay buyers of his artifacts who have owned items temporarily prior to Philly buying them back.

The end segment would consist of getting Philly out of his house on a pretext while a team assemble all his parts into finished guitars... (which he can then sell on ebay) prior to buying more parts  :P

(We do love you Philly  :))
