Guys,

I want to replace the stock EMG pups in my Music Man Luke 1 HSS config guitar. (bridge is a floyd rose)

The tone I am after is the tone I am getting from my PRS SE Singlecut loaded with Rebel Yells. It is a gnarley raunchy snarly beast of a tone.  Mid-range chewyness with growl and bite and nice low end.  I love it!

What pickup/set should I be looking at that will compliment my Music Man luke 1 the way the Rebel yells do my PRS SE?  I want the luke to have the gnarley raunchy midrange rock tone goodness.  The guitar is currently loaded with EMGs, 85 in the bridge with 2 slv's for single coils.  While the EMG's have thier place, they can be a bit sterile and have less output than my RY's.

Should I be looking at getting a Rebel yell in the bridge position or something different due to different woods etc...???
I am also going to need 2 single coils to complete the HSS config? I have absolutely no idea what to consider for the single coils.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers,

Tom

the Luke 1 is alder/maple/rosewood plus floyd, plus bolt on, plus longer scale.

i would suggest a Holy Diver. its in the same vein as the Rebel Yell, but with more low end to compensate.

gwEm,

Thanks very much for the suggestion and info I appreciate it greatly. Someone else suggested a Nailbomb.
Do you have any thoughts on these 2, comparisons, pros cons etc...? If you do I would appreciate your feedback.

The only experience I have with BKPs is my set of Rebel Yells and a friends Mule, (bridge postion), in his PRS, so I am relying on others experience and input for the purchase.

Thanks for any and all info.

Cheers,

Tom

I was thinking the same - you need something with more bass/lower mids than the RY to go in that bolt-on, tremolo-equipped guitar.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

The Rebel Yell and Holy Diver have a similar top end, and more of a "big rock" character. The Nailbomb is more aggressive.

For the single coils, I would say Trilogy Suites, as they will keep up well with any of the humbuckers we have discussed here.

gwEm, Philly, and Tele, Thanks again for the replies and feedback.

Here is my dilemma at the moment.

The holy diver seems exactly the right pickup based on all of your recommendations and in its description...

...however when listening to the sound clips I tend to gravitate towards the tone of the Nailbomb.

This surprises me a bit, but I think the NB has a particular "gnarly" sonic quality that I find the RY exhibiting in my other guitar. This is what I am going for with the pick up selection.

I a trying to achieve a super hot-rodded, full tilt, riding on the edge-of-the rails tone, all with a huge helping of an Organic Sonic quality.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Cheers,

Tom
