Well what comes to my mind when I hear rock n roll the mule certainly can handle very well. Since it goes up to hard rock and early metal sounds without problem too youŽll probably wonŽt need the extra hotness of the Abraxas.
YouŽll get a very balanced sound and loads of versatility. That classic 59 paf sound does a lot.

Though if you want more info and more precise recommendations youŽll have to give us more info too.

For rock'n'roll you want the open, dynamic character of the Mule, which can go very heavy too if neccessary. I play everything but metal with Mules.

I'd probably favor low output pups for a semi-hollow to get more of the guitar's tone so I'd say Mule. FWIW you might want to consider RiffRaff too, got a set in my semi-hollow Hofner Verythin and they really rock (bright, punchy and focused, handle hi gain with no problem, and of course sound ace for clean / about to breakup and bluesy crunch tones).

Yeah sorry about the vague details. I just didn't want the bridge to sound too "tiny" in comparison to the neck. I know how these semis can get very thick in the neck position. The mules seem very well rounded though.

The RR neck is quite bright so it doesn't get too thick wrt/ bridge, and while very jangly the RR bridge isn't thin - quite bright for sure but the low end is here too (as long as your guitar does provide it, that is). I've been using the Verythin as a backup for my NB-loaded SG in my now defunct alt/grunge/stoner band and didn't have to drastically tweak my pedals / amp EQ / gain settings when swapping guitars (in fact I never bothered changing anything when I had to swap guitars during a gig - just rolled down the bridge's tone a bit and dig a bit harder on the strings). But well, Mules are indeed a bit rounder / fatter (well the neck at least - I'll tell you more about the bridge by the end of the week-end ;)).

FWIW, Mule neck / RR bridge is one of Tim's favs for LPs, but I thing a Mule bridge / RR neck (anyone here ever tried this ?) could be quite interesting too, specially if your guitar tend to be a bit too thick on the neck (or a bit too thin on the bridge - usual half-full or half-empty bottle question).

Have a black dog bridge and riff raff neck in a Tokai lp. Also a aet of mules in a Bacchus lp and a set of Abraxas in a gibson lp standard.

I would like the Abraxas bridge with a mule neck to give great rock tone.

I have a Cold Sweat neck in a Gibson Les Paul Custom 68 Reissue and I also don't care for it.

thanks for the replies! I'll have to consider a few options but I think as a right of passage as a guitarist, I should try a mule set.  :lol:
