Help me spend £500-£700?
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:03:53 PM »
Yo, totally unnecessary but I feel like treating myself. I haven't bought a guitar in well over two years or an amp in over a year :o I can't go over £700 ish and I'd rather keep it around the £500 mark.

I'm tossing up the idea of an amp head or taking my time and getting a MJtele/USACG guitar.

Either 50w or 100w. Something dynamic and minimum fuss - single channel would be fine. FX-loop would be useful. There's a couple of ENGL Blackmores on ebay at the minute for £500 b.i.n. which seems like a really cool amp for the money. On the other hand I'm totally happy with what I have.

I've wanted an MJTele guitar for a while especially since he's using USACG necks now. Maybe a blackguard Tele or 2-tone sunburst Strat with a modern profile neck. This is probably a more sensible option tonewise. But am I actually going to use it when I've been playing 7strings for 3years and it's sat next to the Daemoness?

Just thinking out loud, really  8)

treat yourself to a warmoth build. i love my main 7 string guitar but the damn tele with blackguards just does everything that the 7 can't do. of course my 7 is just a schecter jeff loomis but still it's a solid guitar and with the black dog/mule set it's damn versatile.

a good warmoth build is really fun and my tele cost me around 1300CAD with the BKP's. it's a straight ash natural body tele but it sounds like a plank from hell.

it's like painting with numbers, if you're good at it...
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

Never played a Loomis, great player. If I do it I'll stick with mjt 'cause it'll be a vintagey relicy thing looks wise but with a modern neck profile with massive frets. It might be cheaper to get the body and neck from USACG webspecials and send them to mjt for finishing actually.

Yeah, their finishing prices seem very reasonable compared with some I've seen, even when you factor in the costs of shipping back and forth to the USA.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Thought about an 8 string?

I just bought myself the Jackson JS series 8 string for £286. Awesome guitar, I'm really enjoying playing it as it's my first 8 string and had been in the process of building a 7 string but this has put that build in the bin.

Or bridge out a bit in terms of stringed instruments. I already have and acoustic bass and a Ukulele, plus a while back I added a mandolin and just 2 weeks back a banjo (ngd for the last too incoming as soon as I take pictures...which could be tomorrow...could).
All are really fun to play, especially the ukulele and the banjo. Great for when you want to do some acoustic stuff.
Also it can give you new ideas for your playing. Most effect here I already feel from the banjo, it makes you play differently and when you translate that to your guitar it can give a nice flavour.
Guitar banjos are also really nice.

BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Did some working out and a USACG web special strat body/$125 + Neck/$160 + finish/$500=$785 which is £510. So it's actually better to get the kit of him for £475 as it comes with tuners and nut and you can choose the neck spec rather than waiting for the neck profile you want to pop up on special. He must be getting his bodies and necks at a really low cost. Might be able to save a fair bit by bidding on the bodies and pickguard rather than getting the kit, though.

Played a few Ibby 8s in the local and they didn't really do much for me. Guess it could be cool to have it so I could play in standard tuning (a tone down at the minute). What's the scale on that?

I only play acoustics on the toilet or round a bonfire

Had some good news today and my budget has increased to £1k so I think I'll be looking for a nice used head. I may buy a cheap Strat and upgrade the pickups but I just know a nice 6stringer will sit and rot whilst I pick up my Daemoness. Not too sure what, maybe a Fryette Deliverance - time to do some shopping  :D
