Hey guys,

Not an overly regular poster here but I felt I should just share my positive experience with the Riff Raff I just installed in my '59 Les Paul RI.

Just happened to nab this pickup at a good price on fleebay (£60 in like new condition). I had a Black Dog Bridge installed in my Les Paul paired with a Stormy Monday Neck which was a lovely pairing but I recently wanted to get something closer to a PAF with less mid range honk than the Black Dog had.

The name of the pickup has an undeniable connection to Angus and it can obviously crank out ACDC all day long if that's your flavour but if you put that aside, this is a really versatile and very useable PAF type pickup that can handle a LOT of sounds.

Despite what some people on the net seem to assume about this pickup, it's not overly bright and it isn't scooped in the mids. Everything about this pickup's EQ screams CLARITY to me. It has a very present but not harsh treble and the midrange is still strong, it just feels very big and airy compared to say a Mule or my previous Black Dog. Like all BKP's, it's very touch sensitive with great harmonics and obviously very responsive to the vol/tone controls. I find that, like with most Bridge pickups I prefer the tone knocked back to 7-8 for the majority of the time but even on 10 it still isn't harsh. It has a very percussive feel to it like many have stated, it feels great to play and really rings on big chords!

I Feel like I've found the best combination yet for my Les Paul with this and the Stormy Monday, a really versatile but still thoroughly authentic PAF humbucker set. Many thanks to Tim and the BKP guys for giving us such fantastic products with which to make noise with!

Any other Riff Raff lovers feel free to chime in with your thoughts/experiences!  8)

Good review! I like my Mules, but one day I should try the RR-bridge.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Good review! I like my Mules, but one day I should try the RR-bridge.

If you like the Mules you should at least give the Riff Raff a go, they're not as far apart as they initially seem. The Riff Raff is just more open and aggressive whereas the Mule has a richer more refined mid range and a sweeter top end. They're both great but the Riff Raff seriously rips for a low output Humbucker.

I know a RR Bridge/Mule Neck is quite a popular combo too. I just love my Stormy Monday Neck too much to contemplate replacing that!
