Hey guys,

so in an attempt to improve tuning stability on my 8 string guitar (i use a big .95 elixir bass string due to the damn thing being only 26.5) i'm thinking about swapping the current machine head with a bass one, kind of like these

any ill advisement against it? the only thing i'm worried about is the angle from the nut might change, i don't want to find out after i've drilled out the bigger hole as then it'll be quite a pain to fix THAT up.

thanks for any info or warnings!

All the info you need to answer your question is provided in the datasheet that is in the link you provided. Grab a ruler and work it out for yourself- you didn't even tell us what guitar it is or what tuners is has, so how can we know if it'll fit?

well it's a schecter 8 string with an angled headstock,

from the measurements the string won't be at the exact same height but it looks like it might work,

i was mostly looking for anyone that has instant warnings like "nooooooo don't do that you'll ruin the balance of the force'' or something. i guess that lack of news is good news?

didn't mean to offend anyone!

I wonder if there'd be enough timber surrounding the tuner once you drilled the hole for the bigger bass machine head?  You wouldn't want it to crack or split.

When you look at a bass headstock there's quite a big distance between the tuner and the edge of the headstock.

Well, for the record, i just did it and it worked quite well. i left the tuner tilted like that because of the screw hole of the one i ended up getting and also because i thought it looked kind of wonky in a cool way?

either way it's a complete success for that guitar, and tuning and managing the low F is much easier, almost tempted to treat my low B as well, but like PhillyQ said i guess there's only so much wood you can remove before it starts being a problem.

putting the string requires you to be a bit careful, more than with regular tuners, you really have to wind the string down. string height bar like on ibanez guitars might help with that however.

It looks odd, but it seems to have worked pretty well!  :)
