ceramic warpig pole pieces?
« on: August 14, 2013, 06:33:33 PM »
hey guys i have a set of warpigs with a ceramic bridge. It is my first passive ceramic pickup and im wondering if their is any point in adjusting pole pieces. i went with the standard bolts. Also with this style of pickup should the bass and treble side be set to the same height to start?

On the bass and treble that is not really to say, put it somewhere and go. For the WP maybe the treble a tad higher than the bass but it depends much on the guitar and the amp.

Raising the pole pieces while lowering the PU brings out a certain brightness and makes the sound tighter and more focused imho.

On the WP I would deffo say put it generally a bit lower, treble higher than bass and then raise the pole pieces between .5 and 1mm. Possibly more towards .5 on the treble and 1mm on the bass side. With the raised pole pieces I would suggest possibly around 3mm from pole piece to string when fretted highest.
That should in my mind bring out the best of the pig, though that is purely an estimation. Somewhere around that depending on gear I would guess.

Hope that helps.

No, not really, but you could experiment to see if it increases treble response. Just be careful you don't screw them out too far.

for some reason i feel like the ceramics dont need to be tweaked as much as the vintage pickups. Just a height adjustment.

To me pole piece height is just another form of height adjustment. I personally like it a lot but a lot of people donīt do it and go well with that as well.

I can just really see it do nice things for the WP low strings, thats why I say Iīd try it.

I get what you are saying. I have seen some videos of people matching the pole pieces to the radius of their neck and tweaking from there. What do you do if you have a compund radius?

I donīt do exact matching and I do not feel it is required, especially when playing with a lot of gain. I get it in the realm, but that is mostly a string balance issue and not that big.
If you donīt notice big differences just put the middle ones like 1/2-1 turn higher than the rest and you should be good...if you even need to do that.
