What humbuckers for thinline tele style guitar?
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:45:05 PM »
Hey folks,

Was wondering if anyone could give me any insight into what the most typical BK humbucker replacement for a hollowbody "thinline" tele style electric guitar?

As I understand the Fender ones featured "Wide Range Humbuckers", so I suppose I am looking for the BK equivalent to a pair of those.

Bkp don't make a fender style wide range humbucker. They have quite a unique sound as they use copper, nickel, iron magnets.
If you wanted to go with a single coil type pickup, you could go for a Mississippi queen, a humbucker sized p90. Very versatile for rock, blues and jazz.  If you want a humbucking pickup, that depends on the style of music you play. But I think a set of mules would be a good choice for a thinline type guitar.
If you are after a proper wide range pickup, there are a couple of people out there making them just like the old fender ones. (The creamery being one of them)

I can't really explain why, but my gut feeling is always that lower-output, clear-sounding humbuckers would be the best bet for thinlines (or hollow/semi-hollow electrics in general).

I suspect anything higher output is likely to sound boomy, but I haven't put it to the test.

So Stormy Mondays or Mules, I think.  Maybe Riff Raffs, but they might be a bit harsh in that context.  MQs or Manhattans would probably be cool too, if it doesn't have to be a humbucker.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I'll say Stormy Monday or Mule if humbuckers and Mississippi Queen or Manhattan if you want p90 in humbucker casing, just like Philly.
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)
