Humbucker change needed (Ash body)
« on: September 13, 2013, 10:35:55 AM »
I currently have a set of BKP Crawlers in my custom MJT Jaguar (ASH). I feel these aren't producing the sound I want from the guitar (it sounds good, just not what I want). My main guitar has a nailbomb in the bridge, and a cold sweat in the neck. I'd like to get this guitar in the same ballpark - I realise it isn't going to sound exactly the same.

So I've decided on a Nailbomb for the bridge, but being made of ASH a cold sweat won't really suit the neck position. I like treble in my cleans - my EQ is set for upper mids/treble and this works well with the cold sweat in the band for cutting through. So I want a pup that will suit that clean sound, and be able to handle high gain. Any suggestions?

Neck = Emerald

As an alternative to another Nailbomb, why not take a look at a Rebel Yell?

I didn't receive a reply so I went ahead and ordered a set of Nailbombs =/ hopefully should be alright.

Otherwise I'd have gone with suggestions! Thanks for replying guys. My amp is a Laney IRT60H and an IRT Studio. But that doesn't really give you much idea to my sound. It is a versatile amp, and I mostly use the clean channel and have a bright guitar sound. The lead channel does get used, but my pedalboard also has an EQ and a compressor that changes the natural amp sound.

Did you take the Nailbomb out of your other guitar and test it in this one?  If so and it worked then the matching neck will probably work too.  I like the sound of the Nailbomb neck in the clips, it seems to be one of the more aggressive sounding neck pickups in the BKP range and quite different from the CS.

I just went with it. A year or so back Tim mentioned they might work in the Jag, so I thought I might just try the set.

But please continue to make suggestions, it is possible that they might not work for me in the Jag.
