kick-ass was also based on a comic book.  in fact, compared to most comic book movies its a very accurate adaptation

But Kick-ass is a comic for comic book haters ;-)

I never read any comic books but i remember stuff from my childhood and it seems most of these 'superhero' movies are as naff as hell and should be a lot better based on the original concepts.

Michael Bay completely destroyed transformers changing it from transformers fighting for the control of the universe to bad jokes and action scenes where you cant even tell whats going on im sure hes set to do the same with teenage mutant ninja turtles.  That guy doesnt get that lots of explosions and cgi doesnt mean a good film.

I havent liked any of the marvel either.

X men should have been a lot better than it was in my opinion.

Luckily most people have forgotten about the awful batman films with george clooney and valkilmer urggghh just shows you can take genius but leave it in the hands of an idiot and it will turn out a right mess.

I think you can still be a good/bad actor and wear a mask.  I do think that despite Ben Affleck being a bit of a douche he is a good actor but just not as good as Christian Bale.

You could also enjoy Watchmen then. Also another looks at (super)heroes. Allan Moore (the guy who also wrote V for Vendetta and Batman: The killing Joke) did a phantastic job writing this. It is as deep as a novel and there have been doctor thesy for psychology written about the characters if I recall correctly.
The characters are just so flashed out and play into the hand of guys who donīt like superheroes.
Even made the time list of the 100 greatest novels of all time.

There also is a movie of it, which did not do a bad job exactly, but its one of this things that you canīt really reach at all, at least not in one movie. Two big issues though: A) the ending has been changed for the worse B) the casting for the villan is a disaster

Anyone who likes comics and graphic novels really should give that one a shot, it is the absolute kind in my mind.

I really don't get the fascination with comic book films either. I liked Kick Ass and Iron Man is ok but I find the rest terribly overrated. Have seen so much uproar about Ben Affleck being the new Batman on facebook, surprised that many people care so much about something so average

I like comic book films.  Although I usually think CGI is over-used and actually spoils a lot of films, it's perfect for superhero movies because, at last, they can actually do the things you see in the comic books.

Whenever they tried to make superhero movies back in the '70s and '80s - like the Hulk series and the Spider-man TV movie with Nicholas Hammond - they were rubbish because the technology (and costumes/makeup) were totally inadequate.  Even when they managed to make a few scenes work there was no budget to also have proper super-villains so the Hulk never had any decent opponents, all he ever did was turn over cars and push over phone boxes.  :|

really?    Written by Mark Millar (impressive bibliography with all the big Comic book publishers), based on his childhood experiences of wanting to be a superhero and what might happen if he was.    It may parody the genre, but the joke comes from a loving place.   But even if you ignore that, I can't imagine why any one who hates comics would suddenly like kick-ass.  although saying you hate comics is a bit like saying you hate paintings or music and I wouldn't understand that either

He also wrote my favourite Superman story - Red Son.   another "what if" approach to a familiar story line that sees Superman landing is Soviet Russia rather than the good old US of A

Ohhh I definetly wanne read that, the idea is just so very awesome. Thanks for mentioning it!

My favorite Superman so far was Alan Moores (yeah I like the guy a lot) "Whatever happended to the man of tomorrow?". It was the last silver age Superman Story, the last of the Action Comics. After that there was the Man of Steel reboot.

Very good ideas in there making for a worthy possible finaly and I found the very end just tastefully touching.
