BK Pickups for Hamer Diablo (92's)
« on: September 19, 2013, 02:17:00 PM »
Hi everybody,

A friend has just recommended to me BK pickups to upgrade my Hamer Diablo I US (originally fitted with 2 SD pickups) ! This guitar is made of alder body and rosewood fretboard (see the picture below :))

I play in a hard/metal band (acdc, van halen, ozzy, megadeth, metallica, accept, anvil) and I play solo shred stuff (Paul Gilbert, Dream theater). I'm looking for something that give the heavy sound and sometimes for subtile... I play sometimes blues, but i want my strat to be more metal/prog/guitar hero oriented but keep a bit of "old school" rock possiblity.

Another point, what is the type of bridge spacing, conductor and leg that I need ?

Can anyone advise ? Thank you very much for reading :-)

Holydiver would suit you best in my opinion. Awesome pickup that is reasonably versatile and is fantastic in your guitar and for your applications. Buy one without delay and you won't regret it  :D You'll need short leg and 4 conductor wiring. I'm guessing your guitar has a trem so it will be 53mm spacing.

The Holydiver is thick, warm, organic and smooth. It's very much a kind of Doug Aldrich and Jake E. Lee kind of sound but it will also do Classic Rock and shove an overdrive in front of it and you can do more modern Metal. It suits alder guitars very well indeed but will work well in pretty much anything except an SG. Not the best at Blues so if you wanted more of a Gary Moore Blues/Rock sound you'd be better with a Crawler but for a lot of what you mention I think the Holydiver is tailor made for you.

The Nailbomb has far more upper mids in it, giving it a very edgy/hairy sound. It's insanely tight and much more aggressive; more 90's Metal while the Holydiver is more 80's Metal. The other option I considered was the Miracle Man as that shares some of the characteristics of the Holydiver and would be a bit better for your heavier styles but it's just not as versatile as the Holydiver.

Hi,
i was just wondering if you have upgraded the PU's in your Diablo. If so, how do you like them compared to the old SD's?

cheers
