we've had a bit of debate about the varitone on the custom. I'm fairly sure it was done in the gibson factory. It does add oddity value to the guitar, but it's generally not really a lot of use.
The deluxe pickups are great too, the '73 in particular is an amazing sounding guitar. a few times we've compared it against other Les Pauls, and it always stands out as sounding particularly good. I've been seriously considering trying a set of P90's in the '75.
The '75 Standard was a real find, and a guitar i had been looking for for about 10 years! Factory original Les Pauls with full size humbuckers from that year aren't exactly commonplace, and this one is in great condition, looks beautiful and plays and sounds lovely. overall, it's probably my favourite.
