if Tim suggested a certain model, then that'd be the way to go.

Well that answers which kind of basswood you have... I think you'll like the Rebel Yells
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

Just wanted to follow this up  :D
I've just installed the rebel Yell and I love it! Comparing it side by side with a Holy Diver which I also love (in another guitar), the RY is much brasher. Not harsh though, just much more in the high mid area, and louder, with more high mid frequency presence. Whereas the HD (and the Crawler that the RY replaced) are more low-mid focused, darker, and warmer. It's almost as if with the HD there's a baffle in front of the speaker which gets taken away when playing the RY!! And split harmonics are very easy, which is also just what I wanted. I still love the HD and Crawler, but for an 80's rock guitar (including needing to cut through the mix alongside a keyboard player) the RY is perfect!
Bridge: (A)Pig, HD, Jugg, PK, (A)NB, Crawler, Aftermath, RY, Abraxas, Emerald, BD, VHII, RR, Cobra, Sinner, Trilogy, Stockholm, Supermassive.
Neck: IT, SM, CS, Trilogy, Emerald, Cobra, Blue note.

So that is a RY rocking in basswood too with mahogany. I wonder what it would sound like in Alder like my Charvel 2009 model with maple board.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

With the Herbert with it's low mid bias I would definitely consider a pickup with an upper midrange emphasis as the whole 80s pop metal / hair metal sound was like that.

So I would go for Cold Sweat or Rebel Yell

What he said.
