NPD - Rebel Yell bridge

just arrived a bit ago.


have to say... ordered it online a week ago Sunday.  it was processed last Monday and shipped last Tuesday.  it arrived today (Mon).  that is lightning fast.



will be installing it in a bit and hope to have some testing sessions later today.

When you plug it in you might wanne make sure that no one is around, cause chances are itīll make you rock out with your...oh well you know the drill.

I really can not overstate how sensitive it is. Half a screw turn makes quite the noticable difference. Which is why I always tell people who just installed it: Love it now? Fiddle with the height. Chances are very good it can get (quite a bit) better still.

At one point I had my Orange Tiny Terror set to a good hard rock setting, gain at about 1:30 and withing one full screw turn I felt the way the bass felt shifted from something that felt somewhat metal to me to something that felt rather pop punkish (I was putting it down obviously).

It really is not just the modern take on an old school sound voicing that makes the RY so versatile. You can get many different feels and sounds out of it with just simple height adjustment.

i dont expect them til late next week at the earliest to be honest. they havent shipped them yet and like i said before, that first order i got was stuck in customs limbo for 7ish days

I tried everything in my Les Paul, and I always had a problem with every set of pickups I tried... too much uncontrollable feedback, no clean tone, too unitoned, too much mud etc. until I put in Rebel Yells when they first came out and they're in there to stay.  These pickups are truly amazing, you're going to love them.

lemme see what I can lay down after about 30-45 min of playing.

this one went in the mahogany Hamer Centaura with the Hamer-branded made in Germany Schaller double-locking trem with a brass block and a few other secret weapons.  this guitar has had a variety of pickups in it over the years, mainly a JB, with a bit of time with another Duncan bridge model and then some time with a DMT Baker Act (which is like a product-improved JB to my ears).  I played about 10-15 minutes recording a few tracks through POD Farm to compare with a few other pickups also previously recorded.  that's where I noticed how much the guitar needed a setup.  lol!

after the set up, I came back to the ADA MP-1 for about 20-30 minutes of big-rig playing, jamming to some 80s tunes and giving it a run down with the tapped and pinched harmonics.

my first impression is that a lot of it seems like the JB in this guitar.  that's not to say that you are gonna get a the same tone out of a JB.  but many of the characteristics in the rhythm playing reminded me of a JB.  however, the dynamics and voicing are more open.  there is more clarity throughout the range, although it's a more raw tone than the Holy Diver.  if the HD is going to ask you to buckle up before it takes you for a ride in an European sportster, the RY won't care if you buckle up or not when you get into an American muscle car.

it rolled back better than I am used to with other brands going through my MP-1 rig (which is not known for cleaning up well), but I think the HD and VHII both cleaned up a little better.

after a few weeks with the Holy Diver and the VHII, I think my ears have tuned in to the BKP character a bit more and the RY wasn't as much as a culture shock.  they are all different tools that get the job done in different ways, but they all come out as very suited to my rig and my playing style.

now I'll re-visit it over the course of a few days and tinker with height adjustments to see how things dial in.

after few days with it, I'm gonna have to totally rescind the prior comparison to certain aspects of the JB.  no offense to that model, but after spending more time with the RY, I don't think there's any other pickup I can think of to make a comparison to.  it's just a good rock pickup....same as with the VHII and the HD.  it's like having a lager one day and a hefe-weizen the next and a stout the next.... you're gonna like them all, it's just the flavor want for that round.



I did a little messing around and used two BKP models on this backing track.  they are the dirty tones only...the clean was done one a different guitar with a totally different pickup.  but, this is the same amp tone/rig going into the DAW.  I cut them together at the following sections:

00:00 - 00:31 pickup 1
00:31 - 01:02 pickup 2
01:02 - 01:12 pickup 1
01:12 - 01:24 pickup 2
01:24 - end    pickup 1

Which was which?  I like pickup 1 more ... but both are great.

I haven't owned either pickup
