Hey guys, I am currently playing a epiphone elitist les paul custom (stock, a question about that later) through a laney tt50h. The only two pedals i have are a Zvex Box of Rock and a MXR carbon copy delay.

I am currently no longer gigging and am probably not going to be for a long while, so i find the 50 watts unnecessary. I am not to the point where i need a bedroom amp as i still have space to play somewhat cranked. I am looking at potentially looking to sell my Laney head and Pick up a Orange OR15 head. I understand that the Orange is single channel, but i am to the point where i do not like having to fiddle with a bunch of knobs and switches to find sounds i like.

I currently play a bit of everything but mostly metal, classic rock, country and blues. I have begun to get away from playing death metal and have been playing a lot more doom/sludgy stuff.

examples:

Baroness
mastodon

Grand Magus

I was just wondering if i would be making a good decision selling the laney for the OR15 or i should keep the laney and get a good fuzz pedal to give me that type of tone, if so any recommendations?

I am also looking to swap the pickups in the Epiphone elitist les paul custom. I was leaning toward the abraxas because most of the bands i listen to use lower output pick ups.

Sorry for the long post, but i just did not want to open several topics for the same general questions

I'd have thought if you played a bit of everything the laney would be fairly useful for that. I haven't tried the orange and I don't play doom/sludge, though.

"Both" is my usual answer to these things

I think there are a few orange amps that would suit you.

The Laney does cover a lot of ground, but there is something about how oranges react that i really like. I might take your advice and just save up and get the orange and keep the laney as well. I am also in dire need of a new cabinet, the one i currently have is not the Greatest and i think that might have something to do with the Laney not sounding like i want it to. Ideally i want a 2x12

The OR15 has the classic rock vibe, but not much headroom. It's a bit a one trick pony. Nice amp though. Personally I would get a good pedal and keep the Laney.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Two ways of doing it I suppose. Get an Orange and kick the shite out of it with a Colorsound OD to get your doom on. Or keep the Laney, run it clean and do the rest with pedals. In your position, I'd be tempted to keep the Laney for now and maybe add an Orange later.

If you want a good 2x12 cab have a look at Zilla Cabs. I got a super fatboy which I really like and I know there's a few other forumites who have Zilla cabs. I think dave_mc (might be another member though...) bought a Roadkill cab that he's pretty pleased with as well.

As far as fuzzes I think Juan Solo is the man to go to with his extended knowledge of pedals. He built me a Skreddy ?Lady clone and it can do some great stoner tones, but there might be better options.
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)

Ultrastoner, same pedal with a few mods to give it a mids control. The one below is for sale in the Seconds Out at the moment in fact :)

Not the most subtle pedal ever...

I too have a Roadkill and i'm very pleased with it. I like it so much that i sold my laney 4x12 and peavey 2x12 after a month or so of owning the roadkill. Tom is a great guy to deal with too. So much that I get all of my cabinetry for my amps done by him now also.

ah right yeah if you live in the states you have plenty of options there from the likes of avatar etc. I haven't tried any of them, though (and yeah you're right, Mr. Air, I have a couple of roadkills :) )

Only costs a tenner to ship pedals to the States ;)
