Strymon again...reverb time!
« on: October 13, 2013, 10:20:39 AM »
Hej guys,
just saw that Strymon has put out another insane box. After the mega delay and the mega modulation box now we get reverb.
http://www.strymon.net/bigsky/

Whatcha think? Too much? Good?
As always it sounds ridiculously good and is versatile as all heck.

If only I had an effects loop...

Oh and what do you think might be next?

Cheers!

Reminds me of the Eventide Space, which I had forgotten about until this thread, heh. At first glance they seem very similar, but I think the Eventide has a few more features and is a bit more pricey.

Would be interresting to compare them more closely. At first glance I canīt really see where the Eventide would have more features, but that really is a superficial look.

Both seem to have 12 reverb types.
Space has 10 controll parameters on everything far as I can see it while Big Sky has between 9 and 14 from what I can see.
Both midi and expession pedal.
Does the Space have freeze funktion?
Big Sky also has a speaker sim.
I assume the Space also has spillover?

I love strymon stuff, love my Brig, but the bigger all in one combi boxes are too much for me personally. Way too much going on to be useful to me. I wouldn't exactly call a small box strymon simple mind you, but the way they're laid out helps me get to where i want with as little fuss as possible.

Am sure for loads of people it's an ideal box, and they'll use it to it's full potential, but i honestly think i'd be happier with a plain old Bluesky.. Does it have the Flint reverb models too?

time to destroy my bluesky! quite annoyed at them for this new release, it has everything I thought was missing in the bluesky, same thing happened when I bought the el cap, they go and release the timeline...

I can see that issue. I am somewhat thankful that my lack of an effects loop has kept me from getting the BlueSky. I would still love to have a Bluesky alone, although I of course would prefer this.

Now I just need to figure out how to get an effects loop. Is there something similar to the badcat unleash perhaps? A box after the amp that gives me this?
Cause right now I only have two semi practical options. 1. Run my TT into my Weber Minimass, set that as a loadbox and have the lineout go through the effects to my HTH Fender Tweed Champ into the cab.
2. HTH line out trough effects to TT to cab.

Was just thinking: Imagine using the reflections mode with an expession pedal. Start the song out far away and slowly have it come close (or fast). How cool it that.
Itīs like the sound is coming at you bro....

Not entirely sure, I just thought the Eventide had that little "something else" when I compared the two YouTube demos. It might just be that whoever demoed the Strymon didn't really show its full capability, maybe.

I don't know if this could be a sollution as I'm not totally sureabout your problem, but the company Lehle might have a pedal you can use.

Iīll have a look at those, thanks.

My problem is that I have no effects loop on my amps but want one to use modulation effects =)

Great device, though I saw some Bluesky's for sale bec they don't perform that well in the mix of a band. The Neunaber Wet does that a bit better.

personally I've never found a bad sound out of the pedal whilst put in front of an amp when you can blend the dry/wet signal, I don't use effects loops but would like to try it and compare the sound, especially a valve effects loop. In some ways having less choice of the blue sky might actually be better, ha I can't complain. If I ever sell it I will let you know
