just a quick bridge swapping question
« on: October 15, 2013, 08:02:28 PM »
basically, i have a fender hardtail strat with a bridge like this

its held on with 3 big screws like this one even though this one is a different fender bridge

i want to switch it out for something like this hipshot.

do you guys know if it would match the screw holes?

thanks in advance

The Hipshot has the same screw spacing as a vintage style Fender hardtail - the screw holes are just over 7/8" apart (0.89 inches, to be precise!)

Whether or not that matches your bridge depends on what your Strat is - the picture looks like the bridge from a Tom DeLonge Strat?  I don't know if that has the same specs as a vintage bridge.

There's also the question of whether or not the string holes will match up, but even if they don't it's usually fairly easy to get round by widening the holes a bit (on the top side of the body only, no need to drill right through).

is that the measurement on center? or from end to end?

Centre to centre of the screw holes.  So the distance between each pair of screw holes is 0.89", the overall distance between the first and third is 1.78".

Why not just take the bridge off the DeLonge Strat and measure it first?

If the Hipshot doesn't match, you can plug the screw holes, re-drill etc.... but it's such a precise thing to do and very easy to mess up.  Personally I'd rather have parts that matched without modifications being necessary.

It does seem to match.  If not, it's really close so I may just give it a shot
