Start with the treble on zero. Gibbons doesn't use treble at all.

I was kidding.  It just seems like he is spending a lot of money to get that tone

Before I clicked on the link, I was thinking "wasn't there some point where he had a whole pile of Bixonic Expandoras?"

Yes, there was.

In some ways, I think the most remarkable thing about his rig is that 0.008 string set!  I can hardly imagine how weird those would feel.

To be fair, I'm sure he'd still get a great tone if he chucked out all that rubbish and just plugged straight into an amp.

Yeah it looks totally ott. Maybe he needs all that stuff to get a decent tone out of those JCM900's and Valvestate poweramps.  :)

This is really overblown and crazy. Imagine the time it would take to identify the cause of a problem should anything go wrong.

Maybe this is just to detract all the copycats and all he uses is a brown Princeton or Deluxe behind those stacks, plus a tuner and a Colorsound or similar boost  ;)

Cheers Stephan

6 overdrives....so rock and roll!
Had a look at some of the other rigs on that site, check out Adrian Belew's - mindblowing!

Exactly what I thought. Brilliant, exactly what I'd want a rock and roll legend to do.

Apart from 2 pedals all the rest are overdrives. 6 Expandoras on at the same time ? The mind boggles.

I didn't know about him using no treble. I've been using a 900 head at my rehearsal space and I generally have the treble and presence very close to zero. I saw an interview with Johnny Winter recently where he said that he uses ALL treble and nothing else on his Musicman amps - mids and bass are at zero.

When I read things like that I wonder if they're cranking the treble to compensate because they've damaged their ears so much over the years.

Wow, now I don´t feel bad about the setup I am currently experimenting with anymore. That is insane.

Lets mine really look feeble. Though I currently am running something that most guys would consider too much: Guitar - MXR Supercomp - Juansolo Boobtube - MXR 10Band EQ - Juansolo Klone - Digitech RP 255 (as volume pedal and reverb) - HTH Amps 5w Fender Tweed Champ - Strymon Timeline - Orange Tiny Terror - Marhsall 2061CX 2x12" Cabinet

Yep that order, running one amp into another. Sounds kinda great for lead, but I still gotta figure out the bottom end cause right now the sound is too bright and loose. Might just throw a TS style OD in there too.
This setup sounds amazing playing lapsteel with a lot of swells btw.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Klone into the Boobtube works well.
When you´re racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just pies.

Conspiracy theorist hat on: I've thought this for awhile about a few people

Especially with some players that have so much rack gear and multiple amps + pedal boards and use about two or three tones with a little delay mixed in.

I bet there's just a 50w plexi behind all that ;-p

and a Fender Twin behind this

Klone into the Boobtube works well.
Makes a lot of sense when you think about it...which I did not do until now. But I just tried it and it is much better. Thanks a lot for the tip! The boobtube was great before but with a Klone into it...man =)

Now I effectivly use 3 ODs. Klone into Boobtube into 5W Fender, which in this case is just another tube OD as I use its line out. Wicked sounding in a way. Has some fuzz quality to it, very agressive, loads of distortion. Somewhat vintage in flavour, but hard to balance this out. Like it though.

Now I just need to find a place for my Fuzzfactory xD
