Miracle man for my old Chavel Model 6
« on: May 14, 2005, 02:35:55 PM »
Is it possible to put a Miracle Man in a Chavel model 6? It has Jackson Pickups as stock which are active. The pup config is N/sc M/sc Bridge/Hum.

I'm putting my Warmouth projest on ice fro a few months. I'm getting a Koch Powertone II head and cab this month!

Guitars. I love them.

You should be able to, but you'll have to change the pots as well because active pickups use something like 25k pots. We stock 250k 300k and 500k pots, which is what you will need, But im not quite shure what vaule you need for A HSS configuration.
I think that if you wanted to change the HB to a miracle man, you would have to change the single coils as well, because I dont think you can combine active and passive pickups in the same guitar.

I've seen people play with Les Pauls with an EMG-81 in the bridge and a passive pickup in the bridge, also seen it on some super strats. So it must be possible. Guess you'll just have to be shure that none of the battery's current goes to the passive pickups.

The jackson pickups on the Charvel 6 are passive- they run into an active circuit which has a mid boost.
The MM will pop in without any problems but I feel that losing the circuit may well improve the overall tone - in which case fit 3 x 500K pots.

Also the Jacson dingle coils do not have the little triangle of standard fender pickups- may need a special order to go in there

I was just about to point that out. Good call!

we've made single coils without the triangle base before, its not too difficult so it wouldnt cost any more.

Thanks guys! Fantastic source of information in here isn't it! Man, I must love it so much. It's 6.45 on a Sunday morning and I can't sleep because of my guitar tone obbsession. So here I am again. Anyone else get this over active immagination??!! :D

So basically new pickup set for model 6 with the awesome miracle man. Ok, so what single coils would sound ok with them? Plus 500k pots. Would that mean a bypass of the mid-boost and just leave that pot redundant?

I've had the Charvel since 1989 and after checking out Tims Pup's it's time for the jackson ones to die.

Mr Feline Guitars I'm going to start asking a few questions about your LP's
I figured if you can do a job as good as the yanks then why pay all the import duty. Plus your buying British! I was going to do a warmouth project. But your beauties are very seductive

I found out today that you can have Active and passive pickups in the same guitar, But it is not advised because active pickups do not have an earth wire. you can't have them in the same circuit as a passive because of this (so you cant have them on together) and because they use such a low value pot.

Somebody, EMG I think, used to make a buffer so that passive pickups and active can work together.

Thank you for your compliments Sir....
you should be able to just drop the BKP MM in in place of your Jackson pickup with no problems
The only reason I suggested bypassing the actives was to get a purer signal path and get the full benefit of the hand wound pickup - the actives may just mask some of it's great tone.

As for singles i am goig to suggest maybe a pair of Trilogies or Irish tours as they will be hot enough to be on a par with the MM.

Now we keep the most guitars fitted with BKPs outside of Tim's office (and we may actually have more)  so folks are very welcome to come and try them out for real .
Some of you saw them at the London Show.....
We are based in South London - 15-20 mins by train from central London stations, and will be only too happy to see visitors.
We try to keep a huge stock in , and Tim and his team keep us topped up when we need stuff.

Some other dealers may have a similar setup - worth checking who is near you and what they may have in guitars that you can demo...

Again thanks a lot for the advice! This forum is going from strength to strength!!

Jonathon I sent a reply to your mailbox about the visit. I know Croyden fairly well as I worked as a D.R for 10 years so I will definatly be dropping in for your advise and quotes!

Man my hand hurts! I've just finished a intensive 3 month improvisational course with a teacher called John Mizarolli, based in Willesden NW London. 5 Hours of 7 fret spread H.O's and P.O's last night but it's got to be done! No pain, no gain. (I hate that saying but it's true!) Anyone who can't get over to the next level, then check him out.

Keep practising everyone, you can never get enough!

I love it.

I understand where your coming from Bruv'!

Don't worry it's only muscle fatigue or muscle burn, not tendons and stuff.

Has anyone here heard of warm up excercises called 'Spider Excercises'?

There are incredible once you get them nailed, then you can really go for it without fear of injury.
