« on: November 03, 2013, 09:23:33 PM »
Came back home with this:

Second hand, very good condition and a decent price (well... "decent" for the brand at least ). Ok, now I'll have to sell at least one guitar and one amp  :?
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Nice one! You don't see Rickies that often (anymore). Well, let's here some Bangles!

It's a recent one, but the model (it's a 620) is not really new, think it's been around since the early 60s and has not seen much evolution since.

Err... Not going to use it for Bangles stuff actually - rather Sonic's Rendez Vous Band and all that kind of 70s proto-punk stuff.  It of course has this trademark jangly clean tone, but it can also growl and scream too when you push the gain and is not lacking in the weight and sustain departement even with the current slinky-strings / very-low action setup so it can only improve with real strings and some space underneath .

Itīs one of those guitars that just has a certain weird charm about it. And I see a Fender reverb tank with it for some reason.

Congrats!
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Just joking, I know you don't play that stuff. It was just that a Ricky is associated with The Bangles.

Anyone remember a band called The Smithereens?  I only really know them for a brilliant single they had in the '80s called "Behind the Wall of Sleep"..... anyway, they were sort of power-pop, a bit like The Posies, a bit of REM.  I'm pretty sure their lead guitarist used a Rickenbacker, in the early days at least.

To me it's mostly connected with les Dogs and Fred Sonic Smith (even if that one was heavily modified).

I like it. I like Rics generally - they have a reputation for being for a certain sound whereas in fact they are surprisingly adaptable.

Cool guitar, congrats!

What scale length does it have?

It's a 24.75 (ie standard gibby scale). The neck is rather fat (a bit less than a fat LP) and narrow but to my surprise I find it quite fast and easy - but it's obviously the perfect antithesis of a "shredder" neck

I like it. I like Rics generally - they have a reputation for being for a certain sound whereas in fact they are surprisingly adaptable.

Yes indeed, and that was my other surprise: it obviously has the RickyJangle(tm), but can also do much heavier stuff (think full-blast JCM800 or like) and do it pretty well.

Wow, I thought it was a baritone almost. Maybe that is because of how the body is designed making the neck stick out a little more than on other guitars.

Sounds like a great guitar, enjoy!

Follow up : well, to be honest I now regret that BKP don't do Rick pups - the guitar is _really_ nice, but the rick hi-gain pups are a bit meh...  Not talking about output level here and the voicing is mostly fine too - chime and jangle, you name it -, but I really miss the clarity and definition I get from my BKP'd guitars  :?

Tim, if you read me: can you do something for me ?
