NEW PICKUP FOR GODIN ARTISAN ST V 90'

Hi,

I have a Godin Artisan st V since 18 years ago. It is a very Hi qualiti wood instruments. Michel Cussom Uzeb guitar.

Description:
basswood body, figured maple top, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 1 single-coil pickup+1 humbucker, Floyd Rose bridge. Push pull tone to change Eq.

I think godin pickup are not very good, i would like more armonics, dinamics and articulation with fingers.

What pickup do you suggest for neck and bridge ? I would like a guitar with plus personality. I play fusion, funk, some modern jazz NOT rock, NOT hard rock !!!

I have also one fender strat whith classic single coils. No classic strato sound for this godin then

For neck I'm undecided between:

Di marzio fast track 1 or cruiser or Heavy blues ( all noise cancelling ) or Suhr ML. Are BKP for this guitar ?


For bridge i don't have an idea, depending a correct volume e tone according whith neck pickup.

Or a pickup more warm and jazz like air norton or fast track

Hi and welcome!

You're saying you want pickups to play jazz, funk, fusion, but the Fast Track and Cruiser haven in my opinion a too flat response for that. I didn't like the Fasttrack for clean and light crunch stuff.
How hot you want the bridge to be? Lowoutput open, detailed and dynamic PAF, or something with a bit more meat? Do you want a classic strattone from the neck, or a bit darker and fuller?
Maybe you could post some youtube-examples of the tones you're after.

it is correct !

On youtube i like the Suhr Ml and suhr SSH+, but i think it is too similary to strat tone.
Other pickup would be Dimarzio Heavy Blues 2. But Di Marzio on youtube sample seem woody and dishes.

However, I accept suggestions and new ideas :-)

The Suhr SSH+ has high output. I once had an SSH, and that was higher output than vintage. I guess the BKP that comes closest to these is the Crawler bridge. It would certainly fill the bill for more harmonics and articulation. What do you exactly mean by dynamics? To me, dynamics means how well the pickup translates different picking techniques and how well it cleans up. Lower output pickups tend to do this better than higher output pickups. But many people say "dynamics" and really mean "punch".

As you may have seen, BKP does not make humcancelling single coils. I had good results with the DiMarzio Area series and the VV 54 Pro. But these do sound strat-like as intended.

When you say "jazz, funk and fusion" what would be your primary pickup selection for these styles?

Good points Stephan.
The SSH(+) is quite hot. I don't think many people relate that one to jazz and funk.
Mules give me nice jazztones, especially the neck, but we're talking basswood here and singlecoil at the neck.
I'm thinking Abraxas or Crawler for the bridge, bec the Crawler really cleans up good and has a thick clean tone too. The neck is a matter of taste: Slowhand for a thicker, but classic stratnecktone or a darker, fatter Trilogy Suite.

That's what I thought - Crawler bridge and Trilogy Suite neck but I am not sure what the OP is exactly after.

I love the Crawler but I'm wondering if what he's after needs to have a bit more of a PAF character to it, in which case the Abraxas might be better.

primary selection style is fusion. Are there a sample video for trilogy suite on neck ?

This is not an easy one. Personally I would go low- to mediumoutput to keep and open, expressive, dynamic tone. That's what I would like for fusion. I also would like the neckpickup to complement a PAF-ish pickup in terms of balance and character. So perhaps an Abraxas/Slowhand might be a solution?
