The pickups on alder

A lot recommendations here that would work. I support the suggestions for the Crawler and Irish Tour. The Crawler beefs up any strat and is capable of doing a lot styles. Also splits and cleans up great. Note that the bass is quite soft, compared to many other BKP's. Still tight enough for hardrock and perhaps some old school metal.
I would also look at the Holy Diver if the emphasis of your repertoire lies on rock, hardrock and metal. For the neck I would go VHII, if you want to retain some vintage(hot) character, but this pickup is capable of doing modern styles very well.

The Emerald is my favourite neck pickup because it has the cut of a modern wire with the sweetness of an alnico IV magnet. I've also had an Emerald paired with a Crawler bridge and it also works well. Of the neck pickups you're interested in, the Rebel Yell would have the most modern tone while the Holydiver and VHII would be the most vintage with the Emerald sat between the two.

I have both. The Mother's Milk is woodier and glassier, genuine early sixties strattones (think Frusciante). The Irish Tour is an sort of overwound MM. It has a bit more bass and mids and slightly less edge. But turn the volumeknob on your guitar a tad down and the IT sounds close to an MM. The IT is a no brainer and perfoms well in alder and ash, where the Mother's Milk definitely likes strats that are not too bright. With the ebony board (snappy, brighter than rosewood), I would pick the Irish Tour.
