Jazz bass parallel / serial mod.... Really good!
« on: November 12, 2013, 10:33:20 PM »
I was on a bit of a soldering frenzy tonight fixing a few guitars with dodgy pots and put a serial/parallel push pull into my old Squier Jazz bass while I was at it.

Hey! Seems there was a really nice Precision tone hidden in there all those years!

A simple simple mod that adds a load of solid mid and bass to complement the more scooped trad sound and I was genuinely surprised how solid a fundamental note it now punches out.

It still has the stock PUs but I'd thought I'd try this first before taking a BKP leap. Can only think how good it would be with them now.

Anyhow I thought I'd post it here.  Recommended to any Jazz bass player stuck with the basic wiring.

Got a few guitars - old to new and Boogie kit.
BKPS: Rebel Yell, Holydiver

Love old valve amps... But then I am biased!

Note to self: When I finally get a good Jazz bass I will BKP it and mod it like this.
Thanks for putting the idea in my mind.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I need to get one of those Squier Jazz basses. Sweet and cheap!

I prefer the push-push type over the push-pull.  With the former you just have to be careful not to pull up on it when latched down (e.g., if removing the knob it should be up, or if you let some doofus friend near it - sadly I have one of those, I would never trust him near my Explorer now, he's always breaking my stuff but never pays to have it fixed)
