Guitarist mag OCt 2013 - Nev Marten's pickups

Hi folks

Fairly trivial question - in the Oct issue of Guitarist Neville Marten wrote an article about how Tim Mills custom wound him some pickups for his new Gibson R9. Nev quotes Tim as referencing the bridge pickup to the one in Jimmy Page's #1 Les Paul:

"...when he saw Jimmy Page's #1 Les Paul, those pickups were wound like that on cream coloured bobbins."

Nev then goes on to explain that Tim has also used cream bobbins for his new pickups, because they sound slightly different.

So my question is this: every photograph of Page's #1 guitar for the last 30 odd years shows that it has a double black pickup in the bridge position, so what on earth are Neville Marten & Tim Mills taking about?

Simple miss-print? Did he actually mean the neck pickup?  :?

Disclaimer - I have never, ever, had Page's guitar in my hands, whereas I know that Tim has, so in no way do I claim any kind of special knowledge of the guitar. But I know black from white (or cream in this case) :)

I'm sure there's a simple answer. Like I said - a trivial question, but my mind will wander on to these things...

I think Page's LP has had a number of pickup changes over the years, so I guess the question is which pickups are they talking about?

I believe I read that the original bridge pickup had cream bobbins (when the cover was taken off), but isn't that original pickup long gone anyway?

It all sounds a bit of an old wives' tale, to be honest.

Completely wrong, the guitar that was on the cover of 312 is being sold in the current Guitarist issue.
