I've got a Minimat with a 1x12 cab housing a Celestion Alnico Blue.
The sound is frickin' awesome. It's an incredibly pure sounding amp with massive girth and a crunch sound unlike anything else I've heard.
However, there are two caveats:
1. It's quite a dark amp, even with the tone control all the way up.
2. Modern players might find there's not enough overdrive on tap.
I solved both of these by putting an Xotic RC Booster in front, which is a wonderful pedal. However, it's worth noting that the Minimat needs a really transparent pedal, otherwise the huge dynamic range gets squashed. I found this was the case even with my "boutique" Barber Direct Drive.
The best way to try the Minimat for yourself is like this:
1. Phone the factory and arrange a visit.
2. Take your guitar.
3. Plug in to the Minimat's High input.
4. Turn all controls to max.
5. Strike any chord.
6. (Optional step) Wipe drool off Minimat.
You'll know right there if it's the amp for you.
