Want To Replace A SD SH-1

I want to change the SD SH-1 bridge pu in a friendīs Starfield Altair guitar.
The guitar has the following specs:

Mahagony body
bolt on maple neck with a ebony fingerboard
fixed Wilkinson bridge

My friend says that he wants a pickup which has less bass than the SH-1.Whatīs the closest BK to the SH-1 ?
Playing style Blues Rock & Hardrock.Any suggestions would be great :)

The SH-1 already looks a pretty bright pickup so if he wants less bass then I'd start by looking at the Emerald, Riff Raff and Mule. All of those will do the styles you're after without being too hot.

I had a pair of Duncan SH1/59's in my Gibby Les Paul for a while and hated them!

I found they to be overly wooly and boomy in the bass, scooped mids and brittle sounding highs.

I replaced them 1st with a set of Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers, which I really liked, and then replaced those with a set of AIV Mules and couldn't be happier.

I tend to think it's hard to go wrong with the three suggestions Slarti's made.  Riff Raff for the middle ground, Emerald if he wants something a bit hotter (a friend of mine has just ordered some for contemporary hard rock with blues-influenced soloing), or Mule for the most vintage feel of the three.

I would go for a Mules-set. Out of those three they're fantastic for blues(rock), but they can rock with authority too.  Like Tim says, if he could only take one set of pickups to an island, he would take Mules. You can play nearly everything with them.

The main difference between the Mules and the Seth Lovers is the extra clarity from the Mules compared to the Seths.

Both are very similar in character with, if I remember correctly as it was several years ago I last used them, the Seths being ever so slightly brighter sounding. I've always found Duncan humbuckers to be ever so slightly muffled sounding, with the Seths being the best of any I've used of their range.

That's certainly true of my experience of Seymour Duncans too.
