FX Looping/Pedalboard Query
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:56:33 PM »
Hey guys.

I just wanted to ask the opinion of some of the 'FX Gurus' about an idea I've got as regards a future pedalboard I plan to build.

My current pedal board is:

Modded Vox Wah--BOSS TU2 Pedal Tuner--Fulltone Fulldrive II--G2D Custom Overdrive--Modded TS9 Tubescreamer--BOSS CE5 Chorus Ensemble--Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo--Fulltone Fat Boost

I also plan on adding an MXR Phase 90 or a Build Your Own Clone Phaser at some point too.

My plan is to build/have built a 4 channel Loop pedal, in which the Chorus, Phaser, Delay and maybe the Fat Boost would be placed in individual channels.

I have 2 reasons for doing this:

1) These are the pedals I use least, so I can leave the pedals themselves switched on all the time and only bring them into my signal chain when I want to use them.

2) I can keep the Looper pedal at the front of my pedalboard and the individual pedals at the back, which would save me having to step into the pedalboard to use the Delay, Chorus, Phaser and Fat Boost.

I just wondered what you guys thoughts were about this, and if anyone has any companies they'd recommend to maybe build the Looper pedal for me?

Craig

Hi Craig,

I've had stuff from Loooper before, never disappoints!

I can't think of any reason why this is a bad idea, I nearly did  similar thing a while ago but it never happened!

Thanx for the reply Hayden.

I've emailled a company called Monkey FX as regards a quote for a 4 channel looper, but will also keep www.loooper.com in mind, when the guy is back at work :)

I bought mine from loopmaster.com - nicely made and looks much better in the flesh than in the photos. mine was a custom model.

Hey Brow, I'm sure the chap from Monkey FX posted on this forum a few times, under some suitably simian-inspired moniker :D

Thanx for the new posts guys.

I spoke to Andi at Monkey FX and he gave me a price for the 4 channel Looper. I'll keep it to myself, but it is a good price for a custom built switching unit :)

I use an A/B/loop pedal by Banzai effects from Berlin. He's a nice builder with a good parts store too. I also use his two-channel New Rising Sun II booster which is lovely.

I got it secondhand but it's not that expensive. I have a Voodoo Vibe and echo/reverb unit hooked up in the loop and use the B-channel for my TU2 tuner. Although fully passive I hear no clicks when I engage the loop so it works well enough. Very well built bombproof unit.

You can order them as kits too, probably if you email Olaf in almost any configuration. See http://www.banzaieffects.com/home.php

Are you sure BTW you need a loop for each seperate pedal? I like the fact that I can switch on (or disable) both pedals in the loop with a single switch.

I plan on having each pedal in it's own loop purely to keep the signal chain as clutter free as I can.

Rarely do I switch between these effects quickly, so the need to be able to turn more than 1 on/off with 1 stomp isn't of that much a worry :)

http://www.banzaieffects.com/product.php?productid=16322&cat=251&page=1 Here's a DIY TBP Loop kit for about €15 depending on which box you want. If you want a multiple kit I'd email for price and config.

I got a 4 loop pedal from Monkeyfx just after xmas - its a great pedal - just don't look straight into the LEDs, they are v.bright
I have a boss DS2, EQ pedal, delay and line 6 Modulation in the loops and it works really well - no loss of tone when the effects are in the signal path.
I got a tune mute switch put in too which is really useful if you need to swap guitars.
MM set, warpig set, about to be fitted - custom 7 bridge 'pig, CS7 neck.

Thanx for the link. I'll look into how much Banzai would charge for a 'kit' of a 4 loop pedal.
