Inspired by Ben (Plenum&Heather) Maestro PS-1A Phase Shifter
« on: December 11, 2013, 06:04:08 PM »
In the Space Ritual thread Ben mentioned the PS-1A Phase Shifter he had and it piqued our interest. So we had a go at making one. Shoddy clip included as I'm curious to how close it gets (we just set it where we thought it sounded best).

Wow, that is interresting. Despite looking ace as per usual I really dig that multistomp thing, I can see that to be very, very useful. Sounds good too, especially at the end where fast and slow where on.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

It's adding resistors in on the stomps. The medium one just about doubles the slow speed, but makes very little difference to the fast when both are stomped so it doesn't really matter whether it's on or not.

There's a bit of a vol drop on the when you turn the effect on with the slow stomp as we made it true bypass and it wasn't originally. Mainly because given what the signal's going through, I suspect it ain't going to be that transparent when it's off. That does mean that it doesn't ramp up to slow from off sadly. But loving the ramping up and down from fast. It has a real Leslie-ish vibe in the flesh. Great sounding thing.

Looking at the schematic, I don't think it ramps when the on/slow is pressed on the original.

You guys are too clever, I don't understand any of this stuff.  But it looks real purty.

Found some demos online. Confirming the no ramping between off and slow. Also it seems the depth ain't set the same on them all (trimmer inside). Some are a little more extreme than ours (which only really sounds good on the fast speeds IMO), though one sounded almost identical. We shall mark that one as a success!  8)

Cannot wait to check this out tomorrow! If you like, I can make a detailed clip or vid of each stage.

The thing I like the most about the pedal is how it colours your tone when it is 'off'. That is a key feature to the unit. The phase effect is just an added bonus to me!

It's easy enough to wire it that way to be fair. You only loop the slow switch and run the in and out to a switch to make it true bypass. Run the slow to the switch instead, the in and out to the jacks and you're rocking. You could have both in a bigger box, indeed it could have an on/off switch that did it... Many possibilities.

All my pedals are currently over at Cleggy's... You'll have one or two things to have a go at ;)

Put my Weber 12A125 into an open back 1x12 cabinet and it sounds MINT with my Lil Dawg Champ clone and white Strat ... Gonna make a DI clip and then reamp it thru this setup for the video, I think. Should sound fairly awesomecross.
