Aftermath position swap?
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:32:39 PM »
So I just installed a set of Aftermath 7's in my ibanez RGD2127z & they are quickly reminding me why I don't like ceramic bridge pickups.  I remember when I was an EMG guy, I would always flip the 81&85, much preferring both pickups afterward.  I was wondering if swapping the Aftermath set might have the same effect, putting the ceramic at the neck position & the alnico at the bridge?

I honestly doubt anyone has tried that. Would be cool to hear the results though. I would image it would lead to an output mismatch mostly. The neck could very well sound good in the bridge position, allthough very, very different than the bridge. Not as sure on the bridge in the neck, but it could actually work, though my main concern there remains the output. Certainly should give you quite unique sounds.

Damn I really need a cheap experiment guitar, now I wanne try out a AM neck in the bridge and MQ neck in the neck combo xD

I think youŽll just have to try it if you are interrested and if you do I beg you to get back to us with results.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I doubt it'll do what you want it to. If you want an alnico alternative to the Aftermath, you should consider the Holydiver.
